Installing Zip and Unzip for Ubuntu

To install Zip and Unzip by using the apt-get install command, perform the following steps.
  1. Enter the following command to download the package lists from the repositories and update them:
    sudo apt-get update
  2. Enter the following command to install Zip:
    sudo apt-get install zip
  3. Enter the following command to install Unzip:
    sudo apt-get install unzip
  4. To verify wether Zip and Unzip are installed correctly, run the following commands:
    • zip -v
      A message that is similar to the following is displayed:
      Copyright (c) 1990-2008 Info-ZIP - Type 'zip "-L"' for software license.
      This is Zip 3.0 (July 5th 2008), by Info-ZIP.
      Currently maintained by E. Gordon.  Please send bug reports to
      the authors using the web page at www.info-zip.org; see README for details.
      
      Latest sources and executables are at ftp://ftp.info-zip.org/pub/infozip,
